The general fire ban in Norrbotten County expires on July 30 at 8 AM.
Recent rainfall has reduced the fire risk in the county. The County Administrative Board of Norrbotten, in consultation with the county’s fire and rescue services and municipalities, has assessed that the fire ban introduced on July 17 is no longer necessary and is now being lifted.
At the same time, we would like to remind the public that conditions can change quickly. If the heat returns and dries out forests and vegetation, the fire risk may increase rapidly, and a new fire ban could be issued at short notice.
Even though the county-wide fire ban is now lifted, it is important to handle fire responsibly.
Local fire bans may be in place
Please note that local fire bans may still be imposed even if there is no county-wide ban. Stay updated on what applies in your location through:

Continue to exercise caution
• Consider the current weather conditions to determine whether it is appropriate to light a fire or use a grill. Avoid lighting fires in strong winds, as sparks may fly and start a fire.
• Use fixed barbecue areas or places where the fire cannot spread to flammable materials such as trees, bushes, or grass.
• Preferably use charcoal, briquettes, or a gas-powered grill. If you choose to burn wood, use hardwood. Softwood (coniferous trees) can send out embers.
• Always have access to water or other firefighting equipment when using fire.
• Never leave a fire unattended and make sure to extinguish it completely before leaving. Spread out the embers and douse them thoroughly with water.
• Never throw cigarette butts in nature. The embers can start a fire.
• Ensure spark arrestors are installed on chimneys for hot tubs and similar installations.
• Be extra cautious during forestry work, at shooting ranges, and when using outdoor tools like angle grinders, brush cutters, or similar equipment that can generate sparks.
• If a fire breaks out or spreads, call 112. Try to describe your location clearly and stay in a safe place until emergency services arrive.
