Jarre

A lovely hike with far-reaching views.

Jarre is the mountain closest to Jokkmokk. Situated within the Pärlälven Old-Growth Forest Nature Reserve, it rises to 800 metre above sea level. The hike passes through several vegetation zones before reaching the open mountain terrain, offering expansive views across the surrounding landscape.

How To Get Here:

Follow the Karats Road (Road 747) from Jokkmokk for approximately 46 km. Turn left at the Vuojat  sign and continue for a further 10 km. Park in the large lay-by on the right-hand side of the road, just before the sign for Sauloudden.

The trail to Jarre begins on the left-hand side of the road. Cross the wooden footbridge and follow the path to the nature reserve sign. Take the left-hand path and begin the ascent of Jarre. The trail is 1.8 km long and leads up to a wind shelter above the treeline. The shelter serves as a useful landmark when finding your way back to the trail on the descent.

Beyond the shelter, a less distinct path continues towards the top of Jarre, marked by a series of small cairns.

The wind shelter was built and donated by Meiri Rohner.
