A beautiful recreational area by Lake Talvatis in central Jokkmokk.
There are several hiking trails of varying lengths and difficulty levels in the forests surrounding Lake Talvatis.
Talvatisslingan
An accessible and wide trail that goes around Lake Talvatis.
Distance: 2.3 km.
Storknabben
Follow Jokkmokk Jokke's Road, a gravel road, from the Alpine Garden to the top of Storknabben. The road has a a steep incline, but you will be rewarded with spectacular views over Jokkmokk and the surrounding area. It is the perfect spot to experience the midnight sun in summer and the Northern Lights in winter.
Distance: 2 km.
Hundslingan
Marked in yellow. It connects to the nearby trails of Bryllesvängen and Terjemilen, as well as Jokkmokk Jokke's Road near the summit of Storknabben. Hundslingan, meaning "the Dog Trail", formed part of the course used for the 1974 Swedish Sled Dog Championships. Varied terrain.
Distance: 1.8 km
Terjemilen
Marked in green and red. The trail is best walked anticlockwise. Expect hilly terrain with some steep climbs. Sections of the route are covered with narrow boardwalks. Turn right at the reindeer fence where it crosses the trail and continue uphill for approximately 150 metres to a gate in the fence. Follow the trail from there. When you reach the reindeer enclosure, continue through it along the marked route. The trail markings end where the route meets the lit fitness trail (elljuspår).
Distance: 9.1 km
Margitberg
Marked in blue. The trail is best walked anticlockwise. A relatively easy ascent leads to the summit of Margitberg, although some sections can be difficult to follow. Blue metal markers are placed along the entire route. On the Margitberg plateau, the trail passes through pleasant pine forest and is easy to walk. It connects with the Terjemilen trail after crossing the E45. It is also possible to return to the starting point via the old Älvsbyn Road (Skabramsvägen).
Distance: 5.8 km
Bryllesvängen
Marked in red. The trail is best walked clockwise. The route follows a combination of forest roads, footpaths and lit fitness trails (elljuspår). The route begins at the ski stadium and follows the shore of Lake Talvatis past an outdoor gym, the Alpine Garden and the railway tracks before joining an old service road that runs alongside the railway for several kilometres. Cross the railway at the signposted junction for “Bryllesvängen” and continue along the red-marked trail. Boardwalks have been laid across wetter sections. From the higher ground, it is worth making a short detour to Storknabben for panoramic views of Jokkmokk and the Lule River. The trail then follows Jokkmokk-Jokke’s Trail downhill to a sharp right-hand bend, where the route turns left and eventually rejoins the illuminated exercise track back to the ski stadium.
Distance: 8.2 km
