Kvikkjokk - the Gateway to Padjelanta and Sarek
The mountain village of Kvikkjokk/Huhttán lies at the westernmost end of the Little Lule River's (lilla Luleälven) lake system. Kvikkjokk has a long history and is one of the oldest Swedish settlements in Lapland. Finds from the Viking Age has been made here, and there are ancient Sámi sacrificial sites in the surrounding area.
The village has its origins in the latter half of the 17th century, when silver was discovered in Alkavare/Álggavárre and Kedkevare/Gierggevárre. The oldest parts of the current church in Kvikkjokk date back to that period. During this time, many chapels were built high up in the mountains, some of them are still in use today.
Kvikkjokk is both a starting point and a destination for many hikers. To the west, the Padjelanta Trail (Padjelantaleden) winds its way through the Tarra Valley (Tarradalen) into Padjelanta/Badjelánnda National Park. Heading north on the King's Trail (Kungsleden), it's a two-day hike to Aktse and the Rapa Valley (Rapadalen), and four days to Saltoluokta.

Kvikkjokk offers many beautiful day hikes through its varied landscape, from mountain forests and birch woodland up to the open alpine terrain above the tree line, as well as the meandering channels of the Kvikkjokk Delta.
The lush delta landscape has been shaped by the the two rivers Tarraätno and Kamajokk/Gamájåhkå which flow into Lake Saggat.
Boat services operate throughout the summer season, transporting hikers to selected trailhead. Guided boat tours of the delta are also available. In Kvikkjokk, a helicopter station operates during the summer, offering both transport and scenic flights.
